TaxWise Software: Pre-Purchase Questions Answered
America's Tax Professionals (ATP) has sold and supported TaxWise for professional preparers since 2001. The questions below cover what preparers ask most before purchasing. If you do not see your question here, call 224-388-1774 or visit the contact page.
Pricing and Packages
What does TaxWise cost?
ATP offers TaxWise at the following reseller prices for the 2026 season. The Individual 1040 package is $675 (full payment) or $775 on a payment plan. The All States add-on is $295 and the Business package, which covers 1065, 1120, and 1120-S returns, is $345. Both add-ons require the Individual 1040 package as a base. Transmission fees apply on top of these prices and are billed per return. See the full pricing page for current rates and purchase options.
Is there a per-return fee on top of the software price?
Yes. Transmission fees are billed separately from the software license. Current rates are approximately $4.75 to $10.00 per federal return and $1.20 to $3.20 per state return, tiered by volume and product type. The exact fee schedule, including all tiers, is posted on the software pricing page. Review the fee schedule before purchase so you can factor transmission costs into your per-client pricing.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes. The Individual 1040 package is available at $675 with full payment at purchase, or $775 on a payment plan. The add-on packages (All States and Business) are priced as single payments. See software pricing for payment plan details and terms.
Setup and Eligibility
Do I need an EFIN to use TaxWise?
Yes. TaxWise transmits returns electronically through your Electronic Filing Identification Number (EFIN). You must have an active EFIN before you can use the e-filing features of the software. If you are currently in the application process, our EFIN guide walks through the IRS application steps. ATP cannot transmit returns on your behalf until your EFIN is issued and verified.
Do I need a PTIN to use TaxWise?
Yes. Every paid preparer who signs returns is required by the IRS to hold a current Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN). You must obtain or renew your PTIN annually through the IRS PTIN system. See our PTIN guide for registration steps and renewal information. TaxWise will prompt you to enter your PTIN during setup.
What are the system requirements for TaxWise?
TaxWise is available in two versions: a desktop application that runs on Windows and a browser-based online version that requires no local installation. Specific version requirements depend on the current software release and are updated annually by Wolters Kluwer. Rather than list requirements that may become outdated, we recommend checking the Wolters Kluwer TaxWise documentation for the current season's specifications, or contact ATP and we will confirm compatibility for your setup before you purchase.
E-File and Transmission
Is Americas Tax IRS-authorized to transmit e-files?
Yes. ATP has been an IRS-authorized e-file provider since 2001, authorized to transmit federal returns and state returns for all 50 states. When you purchase TaxWise through ATP, your returns are transmitted through that authorized channel. You do not need to establish a separate transmission relationship; your EFIN is paired to your TaxWise license through ATP's system.
What return types can I e-file through ATP and TaxWise?
Through TaxWise and ATP's transmission system, you can e-file individual 1040 returns, all state individual returns, and business entity returns including 1065, 1120, and 1120-S. The Business package is required for entity returns. Before purchase, confirm that the specific forms and schedules you need are covered in the current season's release, as form availability can change year to year. Contact ATP at 224-388-1774 or online if you need to verify coverage for a specific form.
Bank Products
Does TaxWise support bank products like refund advances?
Yes. TaxWise integrates with four bank product partners: Santa Barbara Tax Products Group (TPG), Refund Advantage, EPS Financial, and Republic Bank and Trust. Available products include refund transfers, refund advances, and Pre-Ack loans. Enrollment is managed through the TaxWise Solution Center inside the software. Bank product approval decisions, fees, and terms are set by each bank independently; ATP and TaxWise do not set or guarantee those terms.
Do I need to apply separately to each bank?
No. Enrollment for bank products is managed through the TaxWise Solution Center within the software. You complete the enrollment process once through TaxWise and select the bank product partner you want to work with. You do not submit a separate application to each bank before getting started. Approval for specific products is still subject to each bank's underwriting criteria.
Training and Support
What training is available for new TaxWise users?
TaxWise includes on-screen help and an interview mode for guided data entry, which steps first-year users through each return line by line. For continuing education required to maintain your PTIN or EFIN, ATP partners with Golden State Tax Training Institute, Inc. (GSTTI), an IRS-approved CE provider (IRS Provider P619F, CTEC Provider 2040). GSTTI courses qualify for IRS Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP) and California CTEC credit. See the CE courses page for available courses and enrollment.
Does TaxWise support Spanish-language tax preparation?
Yes. TaxWise includes more than 60 forms and schedules available in Spanish, a bilingual support team, and a Spanish-language training portal. This is built for preparers whose clients communicate in Spanish, not just a translation overlay. If your practice serves a predominantly Spanish-speaking client base, this is a feature worth confirming with ATP at the time of purchase to verify the specific forms relevant to your return mix are in the current Spanish-language set.
How do I contact Americas Tax for support?
You can reach ATP by phone at 224-388-1774, by email at info@americastax.com, or through the contact form. Pre-purchase questions, package comparisons, and setup questions are all handled directly by ATP staff. For post-purchase technical support on the TaxWise application itself, Wolters Kluwer provides direct technical support as the software publisher.
Continuing Education
Does ATP offer continuing education courses?
ATP partners with Golden State Tax Training Institute, Inc. (GSTTI) to offer IRS AFSP-qualifying and California CTEC-qualifying CE courses for professional preparers. GSTTI is an IRS-approved CE provider (IRS Provider P619F) and a California Tax Education Council-approved provider (CTEC Provider 2040). Courses are available year-round. See the courses page for current offerings, credit hours, and enrollment.
